When it rain, it pours.
So recently I took a little time to attend to family, than came back to work and jumped right back into training. And things seem to have been moving at light speed since.
The big news is...I'M FINALLY TAKING CLASSES FOR THE LMS!
Initial impressions are favorable. The classes are run in series, System Administration, Content Administration, and Training Administration, and one series is covered each week. So I'm attending WBT (web based training) classes Monday through Thursday from 8:00 to 10:00 for 3+ weeks.
We're talking roughly 30 hours of training. Throw in my normal design, development, and classroom duties...let's just say I'm really enjoying my weekends.
In addition to the WBT, Learn.com has "office hours" on Fridays where you can work with an instructor in an open environment and discuss implementation with other organizations working through the same process.
Speaking of instructors, mine was a systems administrator for a Learn.com client in a previous life. This means he has lots of SME goodness to share and tons of practical experience.
Before beginning training, Learn.com provided us with a freeform sandbox to play in and our live site so we can apply the model to real thing. We probably won't be making changes until we have a design meeting with our Marketing Dept. and Learn.com.
Training is conducted through the WBT client used by Learn.com. They provide downloadable full color manuals for each session, but as long as you're comfortable switching back and forth between the WBT, the manual, the sandbox, and any subsequently opened operational windows...you don't really need to print the manual.
That's all I can think of right now. The sun is out and it's a late Friday afternoon...what am I doing typing?!?
Next time: so what can you actually do with the LMS?
