Loren Wertz Like putting together a puzzle by repainting each piece

So we've been at this LMS implementation thing for a few months now and I'm ready to share the most important lesson I've learned: You're biggest challenges will come from within. It makes sense when you step back and think about the pieces involved and how they interact. The LMS provider has a product, built to fit a specific need, with vast amounts of customization possible. All you need to do is decide which bells and whistles you want, then sit back and watch as they integrate and install.… Continue

Kevin D. Jones Nightmares do come true - "Technical Difficulties"

I went home early from work yesterday, not feeling well at all. Took a long nap, ate, watched a movie and went back to sleep and slept in. But all night I had a nightmare that I could not connect to the webinar today - connection issues, I was late, slept in, phone wouldn’t connect - anything that could go wrong went wrong in my dreams. Tossing and turning all night. I am sure you know the kind of dreams I am talking about when you are sick. Not fun! And then it happens. I log in to the webinar… Continue

Loren Wertz One step closer

I finished the majority of the assigned courses. Wow. There is so much information, so much customization possible, and so many parameters to keep in mind. I'm certainly glad that we're having them do the initial site design. I've noticed with the training I conduct that one of the more difficult knowledge transfer pieces is terminology. We all try to limit jargon as much as possible, but we're often constrained by the design of the systems we're teaching and have no choice but to use unusual… Continue

Loren Wertz Silence is just another way of saying, "I'm busy!"

When it rain, it pours. So recently I took a little time to attend to family, than came back to work and jumped right back into training. And things seem to have been moving at light speed since. The big news is...I'M FINALLY TAKING CLASSES FOR THE LMS! Initial impressions are favorable. The classes are run in series, System Administration, Content Administration, and Training Administration, and one series is covered each week. So I'm attending WBT (web based training) classes Monday through… Continue

Kevin D. Jones Adopting Wikis in the Workplace - a Must See

There is not much that I would say, “You NEED to check this out.” But, really, you need to. One of the most oft asked questions I receive is, “How do you get adoption? There are so many hurdles - political, technologically, financially, culturally…”

If you haven’t seen Wikipatterns, go check it out. Actually, Wikipatterns has been around for a while. I have used it in efforts for gaining adopti…

Loren Wertz LMS - Revised Timeframe

So we've been struggling a bit to get our new HR system to work just the way we'd like. And since we need to have that piece in place before the LMS (for transfer of user data and, hey, learning is great but money makes mouths happy) we've pushed implementation out a little further.

Instead of an April-ish implementation scenario, it's likely to be closer to June-July-August. The bright side, though, is that this should make the LMS a lively topic of discussion at our all-staff confere…

Shari Ward This Wondrous New "World!"

Okay, when I first entered the training field, desktop PCs were a rarity. Those of us who did have them had DOS. I was tickled pink when I learned how to print labels for my training case-study files. (I trained mortgage loan processors.) I thought I was pretty slick...didn't even have to use my Selectric typewriter to have uniform labels. <grin>

I never could have dreamed we would have the tools available to us that we now sometimes take for granted. Sharing best practices so th…

Announcing our first webinar!

We will be having periodic webinars from guest speakers throughout next year. To end the year right, we will have the first one in three weeks. It will be essentially the same presentation as the one I delivered at the eLearning SIG last August - a primer on SL:

  • What learning problem does it solve?
