I work in an FE college and lead a level 1 group of learners who have typically not engaged with the compulsory education system or have a range of learning difficulty. It is quite a task to motivate the learners and get them to take responsibility for their learning when they have previously had little choice (other than to opt-out). The major work with the learners is on personal development, I would typically use a range of methods to engage them and social learning through active social sessions or using social applications. Blogs encourage self-reflection and mobile devices, social spaces or Wikis are a great way of getting the learners to "talk" or cooperate. That's the main reason for joining this group. I also have a great interest in how learning environments are changing.

My id.10t error

The other day my 13-yr old son asked why he wasn’t able to make something work on the computer. I jokingly told him it was an “id.10t” error. He didn’t get it. I had him write it down, then he got it - an “idiot” error.

Well, we all make them, as I just did. In setting up the October webinar I didn’t put the correct link to register:

Nightmares do come true - "Technical Difficulties"

I went home early from work yesterday, not feeling well at all. Took a long nap, ate, watched a movie and went back to sleep and slept in. But all night I had a nightmare that I could not connect to the webinar today - connection issues, I was late, slept in, phone wouldn’t connect - anything that could go wrong went wrong in my dreams. Tossing and turning all night. I am sure you know the kind of dreams I am talking about when you are sick. Not fun!
